I just had a great weekend. Its been unseasonably warm lately. Tomorrow its supposed to be 72 and it was in the high 60s this past weekend. On Saturday Meghan and I took advantage of it by hiking up along the Barr trail. On Sunday I took my new (to me) motorcycle out for a spin. I spent a few hours getting comfortable on the bike and looking for back roads to explore. I thought I had a good one and then I saw the "Pavement Ends" sign. So I ended up getting in an hour of gravel road practice and took this photo. Then when walking downtown to get a bite and watch a little football we had this sunset.

... and there are things I really like about Colorado. Everything else in my life is going great, so this is just about where I live. I had almost forgotten how much I love to mountain bike. I also love the mountains and being outside. Now that it is cold at night camping with Megs is not really an option but I did get to go for a drive in my jeep in the mountains today and soon I'll be motorcycling too. All in all I can't complain. |

... do as the Romans do. And when in Colorado go mountain biking! Meg and I got some mountain bikes and are exploring the trails around town. Its been a lot of fun though challenging at times. We both have injuries to prove it. Its been a long time since I've been on a bike and I love it. I love the challenge of climbing up a hill (even a small hill feels like a mountain) almost as much as I love flying down the other side as fast as I can. Then there are those heart stopping moments when you have to jam on the brakes to keep from hitting a rock or tree stump or going over a ledge. The picture is from (Beer) Garden of the Gods on an easy part of the trail taken on my iPhone. If you are in town and want to go out for a ride get in touch. |

I love this photo because we are all doing different things. I'm not sure what Mike is trying to explain to me. Randy is pretending to get be in a mug shot. I'm not sure what my face is saying and Meg is just giggling at the absurdity of it all. It reminds me of a great vacation that seems so long ago and so far away. |

Yes, I've loved the 2.5 years I've been in NYC and now I'm headed for the mountains for a while. Meghan and I are renting a small house in Colorado Springs. There are a lot of things I'll miss about the East Village and New York but I'm looking forward to biking, hiking and lots of other outdoor activities in the fresh air. She finishes her phd. course work in 3 years and then who knows where life will take us. I leave at the end of August but I'll be traveling back to NYC frequently for work. My email and cell phone are the same so send me a note and tell me whats up with you. And if you are ever in Colorado Springs look me up. |

I used to think it could read my mind. You know what I mean. You start typeing something and before you could finish w-h-a-t it suggests "What I like about you". I mean how did it know I was a Romantics fan? But that is all old news. I now realize that it is probably not reading my mind but rather telling me about what other people have searched for. So that makes me think. What have other people typed into their search box? Below are some results of what google thinks you might be interested in based on what other people have searched for ... I am ...
people are ...
love is ...
women are ...
men are ...
i like ...
money is ...
i love ...
i hate ...
i am passionate about ...
i dream ...i regret
i wish ...
you are ...
she is ...
he is ...

I was fortunate enough to take an amazing trip recently with some dear friends of mine, Meghan, Mike, Randy and Carl. I don't know what to say except the trip was absolutely perfect and I am truly grateful to have such amazing people in my life. The quick rundown of the trip is that Meghan and I met in San Juan on a Friday, Saturday we went to St. Thomas and met up with Mike and Carl and then Randy. We took a ferry to Tortola (Road Town) to pick up the boat. Then sailed around Tortola stopping along the way at Cooper Island, The Baths, Virgin Gorda, Marina Cay, Jost Van Dyke, West End, Pelican Island / The Indians, Norman Island and then back to Road Town to turn the boat in. Meghan and I were then able to spend an amazing few days on St. John at the beautiful Cinnamon Bay campgrounds before returning to St. Thomas to fly home. Btw, Carl took these photos and many more really cool ones with a regular digital camera and an underwater digital camera he brought. Thanks Carl. |

A week ago I was flying back from my trip to the Caribbean with Meghan, Mike, Randy and Carl. The 5 of us sailed around the BVI and then Meghan and I spent a few days at Cinnamon Bay campground at a cottage on the beach. This is a photo we took right before we left. The building in the back is our cottage and you can see in my glasses that we are standing on the beach. I love NYC but I gotta tell you, I wish I was back there right now. |

Recently, while in Austin for South By Southwest, I made up two words. One, a joke, So-By came to mind when speaking to someone about the conference I was quickly corrected, by more experienced attendees, that it is called "South By". Well I figured, as my hero Joe Namath said "If you aren't going all the way, why go at all?". So, in the grand style of real estate markets everywhere I decided it should be called "So-By". Taking out the 'uth' letters saved me an incalculable amount of time. The other word, that I'm much more proud of is Valuetize. See, in business everyone always wants to know how you are going to monetize something. That is, they are politely asking you how you are going to make money off of something. Common answers these days are advertising, subscription, affiliate referrals, premium services, etc. Which in turn produces the common response "Thats a cool idea but I'm not investing.". In the more 'creative' atmosphere of So-By people also wanted to know how they could montetize (not that there is anything wrong with that) their blog, web series, podcast, film, etc. and I started to think that most of these projects would not make any money directly. So, this may all be painfully obvious but I think people should be OK with that, especially these days when the cost of launching a product or website is so low, since there are so many other ways that a project can create value. We still absolutely need to be totally aware of why we are doing something and ask ourselves if it is line with your own personal purpose. You see, on several different occasions I heard this story. "Joe and I did not know what we were doing when we started projectX. We just knew we loved doing it. After a while our fan/customer base grew. Eventually we met personA at companyB and they hired us to work on projectY." We all need to pay the rent but I don't think we need to worry about trying to monetize every project in our lives. There are many other ways to valuetize your blog, podcast, web video series, webb application, etc. These include:
and there are probably many more. All of which are valuable in and of themselves and, of course, may lead to paying gigs. So my question to you is, How are you going to valuetize that? |
